'The UK's most exciting music society.' (Music & Vision)

ILAMS: Where the UK meets Iberian and Latin American Classical Music

Established in 1997, ILAMS is the first and only organisation dedicated to the study, performance and promotion of Iberian and Latin American classical music in the UK.

Committed to education and cultural integration, the Society has at the heart of its endeavours the desire to bring to the British classical music scene some of the colour, vitality and exuberance that Iberian and Latin American culture is famous for. Whilst mainstream classical music has largely lost touch with popular culture, its Luso-Hispanic relatives have developed a more dynamic approach which defies the traditional boundaries of ‘high’ and ‘low’ art and which has brought classical music back into contemporary society. We believe that Latin American art music therefore has a more important role to play than ever in reconciling the general public with classical music culture.

We hope that you will find our new website a useful source of information - a portal to a relatively undiscovered world of vibrant music, and a place to connect with a wider community. If you would like to know more about our forthcoming events, go to our Concerts page. You can also join our volunteers or become a member of ILAMS for added benefits.

Echoes Festival 2023

The UK's first and only annual Festival of Latin classical music is back!

Banish those Autumn blues and let yourself be carried away to the sunnier climes of Iberia and Latin America at Echoes Festival 2023, where we bring you some sizzling music performed by the hottest talent in Latin classical. Now in its 7th year, the Festival brings unique classical Ibe/rican programming to some of London's most prestigious venues, whilst providing a platform to some of the most authentic and illustrious voices within Latin classical music today.

Echoes Festival 2023

This year we're excited to present collaborations with some new venues and partners: our first event at Cadogan Hall features Spanish cellist Laura Peribañez and the Barcelona Youth Symphony Orchestra, launching the Festival on the 5th October with a memorial concert commemorating the 50th anniversary of the passing of the great Pau Casals.

As ever, other important anniversaries also abound, and these are surveyed by our very own Ray Picot in his annual podcast, Journeys Through the Labyrinth. Tune in from the 9th Nov to hear music and performances by Juan de Anchieta, Alicia de Larrocha, Victoria de los Angeles, Francisco Barbieri, Tomás Bretón, Roberto Caamaño and many more...

Alicia de Larrocha's centenary also offers the perfect excuse to screen the beautifully-crafted 2017 documentary, Las manos de Alicia, which you can catch online from the 17th October via our new on-demand channel.

We continue to shine a light on the vast riches of music composed by Ibe/rican women composers with our Música y Mujer series: on the 26th Oct at the Cervantes Institute in Manchester we proudly present the launch of Pixaudio's award-winning new album, El Fin del Silencio - a disc of solo piano music by x21 Latin American female composers, performed by the Spanish pianist Antonio Oyarzábal.

As part of our African Diaspora series we're excited to be featuring music from Puerto Rico for the first time in the Festival: rising star, Puerto-Rican guitarist Hermelindo Luis, makes his UK debut at St Botolph-without-Bishopsgate on the 15th Nov, performing a selection of works from his homeland, alongside music from Spain.

And we join forces for the first time with the fellow Ibe/rican producer New Stages Creations on 3rd Nov at one of London's newest cultural spaces, the Sands End Arts & Community Centre, to showcase Brazilian contemporary music for the unusual combination of double bass (Gustavo Quintino) and guitar (Fabricio Mattos).

We can't wait to see you there!
